Here we follow progress of trials taking place in medicines management and pharmaceutical care. We begin our coverage with the four major trials taking place in the UK.

Scottish Pharmaceutical Care Pilots
The Association of Scottish Trust Chief Pharmacists took stock of the Scottish pharmaceutical care pilots.

Medicines Management Pilot Projects
Government funded trial being managed by the National Prescribing Centre. Twenty-six pilot sites have been selected for the first wave.

Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC)
Government funded trial being managed by a consortium led by the PSNC.

RESPECT
A Medical Research Council supported randomised trial of pharmaceutical care for older people delivered through community pharmacies in East Yorkshire and Hull.

Additionally, we are tracking similar initiatives taking place at a regional level as well as internationally.

When: 2001 to 2003

Where: 9 localities throughout England

Therapeutic Area: Coronary Heart Disease

Size: 3,500 patients, 240 GPs, 200 community pharmacists

Funding: £1.8m from Department of Health
